MSI 890GXM-G65 Micro ATX AMD 890GX Motherboard USB 3.0 HDMI SATA 6Gbps |

On the early March, AMD released the first of their 800-Series motherboard chipsets, the AMD 890GX, to replace their previous high-end 790GX chipset which is showing its age. The AMD 890GX chipset supports AMD socket AM3 processors, including upcoming 6-core Phenom II X6 processors, and it features an integrated, DX10.1-class graphics core with 40 shader units and a 64 / 128-bit memory interface. You should also note that the graphics core within the 890GX is branded the Radeon HD 4290, but it supports Hybrid CrossFire modes with the Radeon HD 5450. Paired with AMD SB850 Southbridge chip, keywords for this chipset are more processor compatibility, better IGP performance and increased bandwidth for the new technologies. AMD SB850 Southbridge chip is embedded with a Gigabit Ethernet and a SATA 6G controller. To add their AMD motherboards collection, MSI was planted this AMD 890GX chipset on their 890GXM-G65. With micro ATX form factor makes this motherboard as on of AMD motherboards for gaming with Small Form Factor (SFF) system thanks to its Crossfire support with a pair of full-length PCIe ports (which run in x8 mode when Crossfire is enabled). The 890GXM-G65 motherboard sports MSI’s typical blue on black color scheme, and has a nice clean layout. MSI has done a great job utilizing the small amount of real estate available in the mATX form factor. The two PCIe slots are spaced far enough apart for dual-slot video cards, while leaving enough room at the bottom for easily accessing the OC Switch and USB headers. This AMD motherboard from MSI only has a total of two fan headers, the CPU fan and the one near the SATA ports. For any additional fans, you’ve gotta run adapters straight from the power supply. The DDR3 slot placement is typical of most AMD motherboards. It’s all too common for memory slots on these boards to use adjacent slots for dual channel, instead of every other slot like the majority of Intel motherboards. There's 14 USB 2.0 ports available from the MSI 890GXM-G65 motherboard in total and the two blue ports are the USB 3.0 ones. There are DVI, D-Sub and HDMI outputs in the rear I/O block, of which only one digital output can be used at once. There's also an eSATA port, a PS/2 port that can accept either mouse or keyboard, plenty of sound outputs (including optical S/PDIF out) and Gigabit Ethernet too. Overall this is a decent mix of ports, and has enough future upgradability for most people looking for a micro-ATX board. The MSI 890GXM-G65 board has a little something for everybody. It's an awesome net PC or work PC that is power efficient yet delivers a good punch for your business. The wide connectivity feature set and embedded IGP make this AMD motherboard a truly excellent HTPC as well. Still, 1it's not the reason enough to upgrade from the AMD 785/790 series motherboard. But if you are out on the market for an update or new PC, then this MSI 890GXM-G65 motherboard obviously is what you need to take.

About MSI NF750-G55 AM3 Motherboard |

Motherboard specialist MSI has released the NF750-G55. This AMD motherboard will not only support AM3 CPU and DDR3 memory but will also provide SLI multi-GPU technology to easily boost the output of 3D effects. The MSI NF750-G55 offers support for SLI, Hybrid SLI and has some interesting proprietary technologies of MSI, like the True Blu-ray Audio, Easy OC Switch and Active Phase Switching. The included accessories of this AMD board are: a manual, a quick start installation guide, a drivers and utilities CD, the I/O back panel plate, SATA and IDE cables and a SATA power converter cable. Although the NVIDIA nForce 750a SLI single chipset officially only supports up to 1333MHz, MSI NF750-G55 motherboard comes with 4 memory slots which supports up to 16GB of DDR3 up to 1600MHz by doing a small change to the multiplier in the BIOS. The mainboard has two PCI-E x16 ports and 1 PCI port and the PCI-E ports are separated by quite a big distance. So, you can place a double slot card in the first PCI-E slot, but not in the second one. Cause, if you use a double slot card in the second PCI-E port you will not be able to use the PCI port at all. For the sound and the Ethernet connectivity, MSI uses Realtek ALC889 and RTL8211CL. Both chips are of high quality and supported with excellent drivers. The Fintek chip located next to the battery is in charge of the general I/O functions of the motherboard and also makes it possible to control fans with the popular SpeedFan program. The most interesting feature of this AMD motherboard is the “Easy OC Switch”. It consists of a pink switch that allows us to increase the FSB of up to 35% without having to do any other changes. In principle this feature is excellent, but it will only work well if the processor you are using supports overclocking without needing an increase of the voltage. Inside the BIOS, a unique program called M-Flash lets us update the BIOS and even to backup and recover old BIOS versions.

MSI 790FX-GD70 AMD Motherboard |

The MSI 790FX-GD70 motherboard comes packaged in a nice white cardboard box. Based on AMD 790GX chipset, this motherboard supports the latest Phenom II processors on the AM3 socket, and that it is part of the Gaming series and supports ATI CrossfireX technology. The AMD 790GX chipset offers an excellent low cost DDR2 solution for Phenom II owners but currently available implementations lack some of the higher-end bells and whistles that many enthusiasts and gamers want. Amd please note also that Socket AM2+ processors WILL NOT work in Socket AM3 boards, whilst Socket AM3 processors will work in socket AM2 and/or AM3 motherboards. The 790GX chipset technically supports Hybrid CrossFireX, allowing two or more discrete graphics cards to team up with the IGP, but many currently available boards generally only offer a single physical PCI-E x16 slot, there are exceptions of course but only a few. The 790FX-GD70 is built on a brown PCB, typical of the MSI motherboards. At first glance, the AM3 socket looks the same as an AM2+ one. In fact, an AM3 CPU has 938 pins instead of 940. On the right side, it is mentioned that it is optimized for Hyper Transport 3.0 technology. The CPU heatsink retention system has not changed so all heatsinks since the AM2 socket will fit. The MSI 790FX-GD70 motherboard has four PCI-E slots. Each PCI-E x16 slot can house a graphics card with a dual-slot cooling solution. Using such a setup, there's not going to be much room to add anything else. The MSI 790FX-GD70 motherboard has eight SATA 3.0Gb/s ports and one IDE port present for people still using older drives. MSI also kept the floppy disk drive connector. Alongside it are present the front USB headers, the Firewire header, the audio header as well as the CD internal audio connector. Finally, with the board are supplied four SATA cables, one IDE and FDD cable, a Molex to SATA power connector converter, a USB bracket, two CrossfireX bridges as well as a bunch of Q-connectors. These make the connection of the front panel wires easier. Also, standard stuff is the user guide and the I/O shield. MSI 790FX-GD70 motherboard is an awesome AMD motherboard with many innovative features. It is a great board for a computer ganing or dedicated for work. Its power saving features allow it to reduce power consumption, while still delivering the performance when needed.

MSI K9A2 Platinum AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX |
This MSI mainboard comes with two 16x PCIe slots and two 8x PCIe slots for up to 4 graphics cards. The manual says that the “mazarine” PCIe slots are x16, and the blue slots are x8. Where the “mazarine” is the darker blue slot. For the layout side, this AMD board has a horrible layout. The SATA connector should be closer to end of board so graphics cards do not cover them. While the cooling system on the board looks cool, it could cause problems with some graphics cards, although a HD4870 can be installed in the first slot without a problem. The manual of this motherboard is almost completely useless as it just states what somethings are and porvides very brief descriptions. It also gives wrong descriptions at times stating colors that are obviously not on the board anywhere. This motherboard can not handle high voltages, especially with all 4 dimms in use. However with all of these issue, MSI K9A2 Platinum is one of the cheapest dual 16x PCIe for 16x/16x with support for 140W AMD Phenom.

MSI P35 Platinum (Intel P35) |
.jpg)
MSI is one of the top tier computer motherboard manufacturers in the consumer PC industry, but there is no mistaking 2006 as the year that ASUS and Gigabyte took most of the limelight. Gigabyte's marketing machine pushed the whole solid capacitor design into high gear while ASUS flooded the market with specialized target focus computer motherboard models such as the TeleSky and Republic of Gamers. Both manufacturers also drew a lot of attention with an announced alliance (which didn't last), but most importantly, they made exciting computers motherboards that kept the market fresh. MSI on the other hand, was focusing more on their graphics card business.
With the launch of Intel's new Bearlake chipset family however, MSI has gone all serious about their next generation motherboards, they do have some interesting designs on hand.
