The Gigabyte GA-890FXA-UD5 is an AMD based motherboard built on the AMD 890FX chipset and supports AMD 6-core processors. Unlike previous designs, AMD still uses a Northbridge and Southbridge chipset configuration. The Northbridge will handles all of the highspeed connectivity like USB3 and SATA6, while the Southbridge supplies many of the legacy technologies such as USB2, PCI and audio output. With 941 pins of AMD Socket AM3, all current AMD Phenom II CPUs including the 6-core 1090T and 1055T will work with this mainboard. Gigabyte has included 2x banks of dual channel DDR3 that together support up to 16GB of memory. Be sure to purchase the proper kit of DDR3 modules cause the AMD system still use the higher voltage.
